About the Artist
After graduation from Capilano College’s Commercial Art Program, Sheila Manning enjoyed a 30-year successful career as a graphic designer and illustrator. In addition, she had a 15 year career teaching 1st and 2nd year visual design students in the IDEA program at Capilano University. Currently, Sheila works in the film industry, and during hiatus, is inspired to paint the gorgeous BC landscapes that surround her, fulfilling a long held dream to be a painter.
Artist's Statement
One of the best things about living in British Columbia is the unique, serene natural beauty that exists everywhere around me. I have long been fascinated by the everchanging light that filters through the dense treed canopy of our forests. I am passionate to capture the light as it ignites the delicate moss on branches and tangled undergrowth, creating abstractions of colour, form and contrast. My hope is that anyone viewing my artwork will feel they have been transported into the deep forest environment, and are now enveloped in the calming, grounding magic within.
